New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale May 25 – 26, 2018
For more than 50 years, the New Hamburg Mennonite Relief sale (at 275 Jacob Street in New Hamburg) has brought volunteer supporters and businesses together with buyers who care about poverty, peace and global needs. With over 40 venues supported by 2,000 volunteers, the relief sale is a remarkable community event and a beautiful expression of community compassion. www.nhmrs.com
Since 1967, over $14,000,000 has been raised, with more than $300,000 annually for more than 25 years. All proceeds go directly to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) for non-for-profit relief, and to demonstrate God’s love by blessing people around the world.
Breslau and area Mennonite Churches began participating in the sale by providing home baked strawberry pies. The first year, 1967, 100 pies were made. The churches contributing to the cost and supplying volunteers were Breslau, Bloomingdale, Listowel, and Wanner Mennonite Churches. In 2017, we raised $15,200 for MCC with 1030 pies, 700 tarts and berry bowls. The churches contributing to the pie project, both financially and with volunteers has stabilized to Breslau, Bloomingdale, Listowel, and Pioneer Park Mennonite Churches. We are the second highest project in money raised, the quilts come in first.
Hope to see you Saturday, May 26 at the New Hamburg Relief Sale in support of the work of Mennonite Central Committee. Activities are also going on Friday evening, May 25.
