Marking 150 Years of Confederation with Gratitude, Lament, and Hope
This year, July 1st, in worship at Breslau Mennonite Church on Sunday July 2nd, we mark the 150th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. We have much to celebrate, much to lament, and much to dream. Lament for the past and present injustice to the Indigenous Peoples and other Canadian peoples. Celebrating 150 years of Canadian Confederation can only be a true celebration with lament and renewed commitment to continuing to work toward right relations with all people.
What does it mean for you to be a Canadian? What do you hope for Canada in the future?
Join in worship and praise in the presence of God, our Creator. The Creator in whom we, and all of creation, are one. We are filled with gratitude and thanksgiving. We are open to God’s Spirit leading us this day and each day.
In our celebrations of July 1st and in this summer season, may we live justly, love boldly, and be open to the wisdom of God’s Spirit guiding us with humility and courage.
